This tiny country church is one from the archives. Without knowing it I have been shooting remote church buildings for a number of years, and this is one of my favourites. Located South of Auckland on the Awhitu peninsula in rural New Zealand.
I remember taking this shot as I was on a bit of a photo high after finding an old freighter in the trees not far from here, and thought I had already earned my keep. Driving into the setting sun I nearly drove right past this, but the glint of the steel roof got my attention. I loved the setting in the middle of a paddock, and behind a low picket fence for all to see. The perfect blue sky, and the late sun gave an almost serene feel to this image.
This one makes it into my selects because I love the remoteness and feel of a pretty little building in the middle of a large paddock, miles from anywhere, with not a soul in sight.
